Director Organic Chemistry

Prime objective of the R&D group is to provide best-in-class ADC technologies, spanning from development of conjugation technologies to linkers and payloads. Main focus currently is on cytotoxic ADCs, however next-generation technologies for application immune-oncology and targeted gene therapy are an important company ambition. The associate director organic chemistry plays an active role in shaping and defining the company’s R&D agenda and ensuring successful execution thereof.

Job Description

  • Identifies key growth areas in the field of conjugation chemistries and translates these into new R&D projects
  • Recognizes trends/opportunities in potential growth fields
  • Analyzes strengths and weaknesses of technologies of key competitors
  • Engages with internal and external IP-counsels to support and strengthen patent portfolio
  • Chairs internal organic chemistry work-meetings and discussions
  • Coordinates project management in multi disciplinary teams, related to project definition, budgeting and project execution
  • Supports business development team in partnering discussions and strategy
  • Scouts and performs or delegates auxiliary tasks
  • Ensures operational excellence within the chemistry group related to laboratory and equipment maintenance and EHS matter.
  • Organizes in-house trainings/conferences
  • Coaches and inspires organic chemistry R&D staff (direct & indirect reports)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Analysis and mapping of early technology development trends in targeted therapies
  • Lab work related: able to interpret NMR, RP-HPLC, TLC, IR
  • Strong scientific background with proven track record in the field of organic chemistry
  • Ability to solve complex chemical problems
  • Experience with in project drafting and budgeting
  • People management
  • Strong organizational skills
